This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fifth-grade students are working diligently to increase their twenty-first-century skills and self-esteem. They are highly motivated students in need of higher-level thinking opportunities. I am interested in supporting my students to achieve their dreams by helping them access their inner potential.
My students are deserving of the best the world can offer because they are our future!
They are a fun-loving, creative and dedicated group of learners coming from primarily Latino families located in suburban California. Our school has about one thousand students in a PreK-5 environment where free or reduced-price lunch is the standard. We are co-located with a Magnet school on our campus.
My Project
Recently I was funded for some Breakout EDU boxes. Seeing my students collaborate to solve the clues was heartwarming. Their excitement has made me want to make more of the modules. Although the kits and activities are wonderful, they are time-consuming to make and reuse. It is my plan to make many more of these modules and laminate them with the 3M film or put them in sheet protectors. Storing the items for each team in mailing envelopes has worked well for me. Using labels to identify items has helped tremendously.
It is my goal to organize the materials so that I can lend them out to other teachers to ignite their students and build self-esteem among the diverse population of students in my school.
It is a great way to promote social-emotional learning and strengthen academic skills with real-world scenarios. These activities bring about a chaotic excitement that stimulates the brain.
Some content areas I want to focus being 5th-grade fractions, multiplication/division, solving word problems, growth mindset, team building, U.S. Constitution, computer coding of ciphers, and upcoming in August are new Common Core State Standard aligned modules. I can hardly wait.
Getting these materials will give my students an exciting way to make new friends, build self-confidence, and strengthen their critical thinking skills.
