Our school lacks the necessary technology to ensure that our students are set up for success. I am currently teaching 5th grade in a high-need, high-poverty, inner city school in New York.
Last year, my students and I were given a wonderful gift...a computer. That's right. One computer. It is the only computer that my students are given access to. This computer is amazing! However, we do not have a printer or ink for it. Imagine having all the kids type their essays, projects, or poems on the computer, saving it to a flash drive, bringing it home, and printing out over 25 pieces of student work. All this for just one assignment. A printer would ensure that my students would be able to see their final project as soon as they click "print"!
If we had a printer in the classroom, my students would be able to complete projects and assignments at school. It would also allow the teacher to print out lesson plans and activities found on the web. The extra ink purchased will secure my students printing success all year.
Your help will ensure that my inner-city students are given the same educational benefits as more privileged students. The writing process includes publishing. With a printer and extra ink, my students will be able to create amazing published documents...pamphlets, brochures, images, pictures, charts, graphs, and research projects. The ideas are endless. All students should be given the chance to be set up for success!
