There is nothing more wonderful than watching a child's face light up as they read a fascinating fact about an animal. Kids love learning about the world and all the amazing creatures that live in it. Please help give the students in my fourth grade class the opportunity to have such an experience.
My students live in a culturally rich and diverse community within New York City.
The students in my classroom are a reflection of that richness. Despite being a Title I school, administration and teachers strive to engage students in the learning process by offering a curriculum that teaches through the arts.
While our school is a Title I school, we strive to be creative in finding ways of making sure that our students have access to the best resources despite their financial situation.
My Project
I am requesting a range of non-fiction books on topics including sharks, wolves, and plants that eat animals. These books will be used to support our non-fiction reading unit. During this unit students will be working on skills such as finding the main idea and supporting details, determining the author's purpose, and making connections between different books on the same topic.
Reading is arguably the most important skill that students must develop in order to be successful in life.
In order to become fluent and skillful readers, children need to be exposed to many books and engaged by the subject matter. Kids love to read about dangerous, weird, and wacky animals. Donating a set of non-fiction books will engage students and help build stronger readers.
