My Students
My students attend a public elementary school in northern California. The majority of my students are English language learners that come from low-income families with little support at home. Despite the fact that many of my students face challenges, both inside and outside of the classroom, they are enthusiastic about learning.
My students enter the classroom with big hearts and open minds, always ready to learn.
I strive to create an environment where my students feel comfortable enough to engage in the learning process. I want to provide my students with high interest materials to help them have the courage to participate and connect with the learning process.
My Project
My class is in need of new picture books that can be used to teach empathy, friendship, and to celebrate differences. These pictures book will be used as shared reading experiences to generate discussions about important life skill topics.
I believe it is important to not only teach academics but to teach to the social and emotional needs of my students.
We all know that kids learn best when they are in a safe environment, and one way that I create a safe environment is through read alouds and discussions. I hope to encourage my students to be role models through exposure to positive messages and strong characters in these picture books.
