Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The materials provided for my English class for Common Core are dated, and many of them are even inaccurate in terms of statistics. The world is moving fast, and we need to adapt quickly so as to keep the interests of our students.
My 9th graders love to be challenged.
They are inquisitive, bright, and interested in the world around them. Trying to bring in materials on a daily basis has been exhausting, not to mention expensive. I have tried to use the materials given, but when you are reading a text about Global Warming from 2006, you know that many things have changed. My old materials no longer interest my kids, and many of them don't understand the significance of reading something that is so dated.
My Project
With this magazine subscription, not only will I be able to present current and relevant happenings to my students, I will also have the chance to peak their interests and perhaps even motivate them to be active participants in the world around them. This magazine has informational articles, a brief assessment of those articles, a literature connection, and a writing exercise. These are the materials I need, to be able to get into Common Core, with my kids.
I have no doubt that this will effect how my students see the world and their place in it.
It will be the perfect springboard for them to ask questions about what is happening in society, and to connect how those happenings are effecting our world. As adults, how many times do we stop by the magazine aisle to read? I want that same interest for my kids, and I believe this magazine will do just that.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
