My Students

My students love to read and also prefer unconventional spots to do work but our tile floor is just not cutting it. They still choose to sprawl across the floor as they read and work with a partner as they play a math game but they would prefer a comfy spot to work.

I teach a vibrant group of fifth graders in Northern Virginia.

The group of students I teach is very diverse in multiple different ways. My colleagues and I have been working very hard this year to create lifelong readers and working with them to create lifelong reading habits.

My Project

We need a rug to have a comfy spot to work during the school day. The students will be using the rug throughout the day. We spend much of the day reading and snuggling up with a good book. We also need more alternative seating options in my classroom. Many of my students have a difficult time sitting still for long periods of time and some just hate sitting at a desk. I have created standing desks, some squeeze underneath tables and some just enjoy sitting on the floor. However, the floor is tile and not very warm and comfy in the winter months. Several of my students have inquired over the past few months as to why we don't have a rug in our classroom.

All my students need is a comfier place to work during the school day.

This will help me to reinforce the fact that you should find comfortable places to help you study and work because it allows you to have more stamina. If my students have a hard time getting comfy while reading a book, they will spend less time working. Please donate to our classroom and help make our classroom a little more homey.
