This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Financial literacy refers to a set of skills needed to make an informed decision with all financial resources. It is never to early to start working on these skills.

I work in a Title I school with about 98% of the students on free and reduced lunch.

Most of my students are learning English as a second language. They are sweet and eager to learn, but they do not have basic background knowledge in most areas. Most of their families have barely enough for basic needs to be met. They need to learn how to count and use money as a life skill.

My Project

I am requesting a shopping math kit, 2 counting money puzzles, 2 money match-ups and a motivational prize bucket to learn how to count and use money correctly. My students will learn how to problem solve with the money solving game. They will learn to identify and count money through these puzzles. They are already earning class money through our behavior system. The treasure box will be used as an incentive for them.

My students need to learn to identify and use money correctly.

It is a necessary life skill. These skills will help them learn skip counting as well as adding and subtracting facts.
