My Students
My students are just being introduced to learning in Kindergarten and deserve a comfortable place to learn. I love to read and believe that each child should have a comfortable place to lay and read. I would like to provide that for my class through a decorative area rug.
At our school we are always striving to be the best in the district in the MyOn reading program!
I want to continue our reputation of high reading scores by giving our youngest learners a fabulous place to lay and read in the room. We are in a low socioeconomic area and many students come to Kindergarten having never been in a school setting. It is critical to the organization and structure of our day that we have a circle time carpet. We will be using the carpet to have our daily classroom meeting, sing songs, read stories, and use the smart board. My goal is to provide a classroom environment that promotes reading and writing. By having a carpet with the Alphabet on it I can use it to reinforce words and letters that we are learning. I plan on using the design of the carpet at a center as well.
My Project
My circle time carpet will be used everyday for most of the daily activities. We will be meeting as a group to read, do math, weather, class meetings, discuss how to do our center activities, and during each transition. The rug is an essential piece of my classroom management and routines each day. Students will learn that the rug is a place where learning takes place and where they can be comfortable with everyone in the room. We will learn how to be respectful, responsible, and safe by using this meeting place.
A circle time rug is one of the first things you notice when you walk into a primary classroom.
It is the main area where learning takes place and can determine the flow of the day. In years past I have not had a meeting carpet and it makes a huge difference in how students feel. Where there are routines and procedures put in place with a meeting place the day goes more smoothly and more learning can take place. Acquiring a carpet will be essential to the success of the school year!
