Wanted: Computer For Our SMARTboard

My students need a well functioning computer to work with the SMARTboard in the classroom.

My Students

My classroom is a place full of opportunities. My students come in each day not knowing what to expect and where their learning will take them. With this technology, not only can we continue exploring the world through books, but we could explore through the digital world.

I have 20 students in my fourth grade class, thirteen boys and seven girls.

Half of my class gets free lunch at school due to their socioeconomic status. Some of my students have technology at home and others don't. Collectively though, their favorite special class (gym, library etc.) is the computer lab. They say that in technology they feel free and get to try new and amazing things. I have expressed to my students that in my prior teaching I have been the type of teacher that used a ton of technology in the classroom. I've shared with them that it is a passion of mine. That I've taught my first graders how to code computer games and that during math stations I always had an online game station. They want this technology for our classroom so that it can be the best learning environment possible. They want this technology so that they can have all the opportunities they deserve.

My Project

Imagine a classroom full of students who are ready to learn. Imagine twenty students sitting on the carpet staring at the SMARTboard excited to get involved with a math lesson. Imagine a teacher who has planned technology-driven, interactive, and engaging science lessons. Now, imagine a computer that takes twenty minutes to load, crashes before lessons even begin, disconnects to the Internet mid-video and constantly disengages students from lessons they want to be engaged in. With a new Macbook Air I can easily transport a computer between home and school to develop exciting and engaging technology-driven lessons. With a new Macbook Air my students can get involved in their learning. With a new Macbook Air teaching and learning can be efficient and technology in the classroom can be realistic.

This donation will help my students learn in so many ways.

With this computer my students will be able to use the SMARTboard efficiently. That will impact their learning through whole group lessons, but also during small group and independent learning. Students will be able to interact with their learning and create presentations to share with others within a manageable and realistic time frame.
