I am a first grade teacher in NC. I love going to work each day so I can help my students be the best they can be!

One of the many challenges my students face each day is having difficulty learning to reading. I want to be able to provide them with different activities so they can become successful and independent readers. In my classroom, I also have English as a Second Language students. Goodness, if a child's native language is English and they have trouble learning to read, just think how difficult it is for a child who does not speak English?

After 14 years experience in the classroom, I have learned that all children do NOT learn in the same way. Some students learn best by hearing (auditory), seeing (visual) and feeling/moving (kinesthetic). I would like to reach my auditory learners by having personal CD players for them to use in the listening center while listening to books on CD. Not only will my students be able to hear the book read to them, they will also be able to follow along in their own book. If I can provide meaningful learning centers, I just know I can help reading be a joy instead of a chore.

I still remember when I was a first grader and learned to read; I bet you do too! I hope you will help me help my first graders develop a passion for reading. They are each so precious and truly deserve the opportunities that many other students take for granted-being able to read. Have a great day and thank you for reading my proposal!
