My Students
My Pre-K students live in a diverse neighborhood consisting of hard-working people and unfortunately, at times bad influences. Their parents often work more than one job to make ends meet. Many parents are English language learners themselves and cannot always help the students with their homework. They are lucky to attend a school that has an administration with bold ambitions for them.
This year, we are going to use play-acting to learn about other people and also to practice working together.
My Project
Little Pre-K students come to school with little experience of the people around them other than their immediate family and neighbors. Through Dramatic Play, my students will expand their understanding of the people who help their communities and the awesome jobs that these people can have. I will read them stories about people with different occupations and then introduce the costume that they can put on and pretend to be that person. In addition to costumes, this project includes hand puppets that the children can use to act out the stories we have heard. This is a magical time in their lives and I want to supply them with all the magic I can.
