Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a child, I loved grabbing the kid-friendly encyclopedias in my house to find answers to the random questions in my head. Why do our bodies make earwax? How do I know to breathe at night? And after I found my answer, I would just continue reading and find out more information I never realized I wanted to know about. Kids now can just Google their questions, find the answer they were looking for, then close the browser. There is no desire to click a link and read on. I want to give my students to opportunity to find topics and subjects they're interested in, and read all about them to their heart's content.

With the addition of all these nonfiction texts in our classroom library, I'll be able to inspire my students with a variety of topics that may even influence their future as an adult.

It's hard for children to envision themselves growing up for jobs they have no idea even exists unless we expose them to these ideas. I chose a variety of books, spanning across a number of subjects so that my students can have plenty of topics to read about. I am very fortunate that my students enjoy reading chapter books, I would love to broaden that love of reading to include nonfiction texts as well.
