I teach kindergarten in the suburbs of Las Vegas. My students will be new to our school and for some of them this will be their very first experience in a school setting.
One thing about kindergarteners is that they are usually one of two things at the start of the school year: they are either so excited to be at school or somewhat fearful of the new experience.
I hope to help them learn to love school and grow their excitement for learning. This coming school year will be wonderful as I will get to be with my students in real life again!
My Project
For young children, retelling stories can be a tricky business. If they are not quite ready to be reading words yet, they have to use pictures to help guide them through the stories. Children love to touch and work with their hands. Sometime working with pictures on a page alone isn't enough. They need to feel and move things as they work.
Using these storytelling pieces will help them to build the confidence they need to learn how to tell and retell stories in a "just right" mode for them.
Not only will they have the opportunity to act out stories but it will give them the chance to relive the excitement of a story over and over again!
