My kindergarten learners exhibit an open mindset toward learning, which reflects their inherent curiosity, eagerness, and their willingness to explore new ideas and experiences. They come to school, ready to tackle each day with a "can do" attitude!
Building a solid math foundation is crucial for all future math learning.
A HUGE part of our year is dedicated to building number sense. Math needs to be presented as a tangible game that can be manipulated, explored, organized, and broken apart. It needs to be fun and interactive and something that encourages students to continue taking risks while eliminating the consequences. It needs to demonstrate that there are often numerous ways to solve a problem, and the fun lies in investigating those solutions through hands-on, playful discovery. Most importantly, math needs to promote critical thinking OVER memorization! I believe that Math Stackers "ticks" off all of these boxes and would provide my young learners with the essential tools needed to empower them to think like number sense experts!
Math Stackers allow students to visualize the whole concept of numbers, taking the idea of a number from an abstract idea to a concrete one. The Math Stackers foam numbers are instrumental in promoting discoveries in counting, comparing and ordering, subitizing, number relationships, addition and subtraction, and more! While some students may become intimidated when solving math problems with pencil and paper, those same problems come to life through the hands-on investigations they encounter when "playing/building" with Math Stackers. Let's go out there and "build" some math thinkers!!
