My Students
Over 90% of our student population receives free lunch. Many of my students travel over 90 minutes to have a free breakfast to start their day. The students, though highly economically disadvantaged, are always in school and on-time. They are always eager to learn through reading, demonstrations, and hands-on activities (their favorite).
My students are very caring and emotional when they see other students in-need.
They want to help them with supplies, items, and food so they can continue to learn in their home countries. They understand other students may not have access to simple everyday items that they may take for granted such as books, pencils, breakfast. etc.
My Project
The UNICEF Power bands are a great way to build student empowerment and to raise awareness for social justice issues. These are things you cannot teach children because they have to be exposed to these issues and they have to act on them from their own free will. These issues lead to student empowerment, student voice, student advocacy, and student awareness of global issues.
The students will wear the power bands as they go through their school days and after-school activities.
They will complete activities to learn about UNICEF, its programs, and what they can do to help promote eduction for these malnourished and under-educated kids.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
