Walking in Someone Else's Shoes

My students need dramatic play materials and a place to store them in.

My Students

As a teacher of a nonprofit program, we do not have the finances to get a great deal of materials for our students. Some of my students come from economic hardship and single parent households and with that, come to me facing challenges outside of the classroom.

My Pre-K students are very curious and have a passion for learning.

I want to be able to give them the tools that they need to encourage them to use their imagination and build on what they already know. They love to move, do experiments, listen to stories and strive on positive attention. I want their first school experience to be memorable and where they can truly be themselves.

My Project

Young children enjoy engaging in pretend play situations. The community helper dress up clothes would give the children in my classes a way to express themselves and use their imagination.

Role playing builds confidence and helps them learn how to problem solve.

Children can work together and participate in different roles in this area of our classroom. My children would be able to be someone that they are not and show what they think that a person in that job description does. These jobs could also relate to what their family members do. They will learn how to take care of the Lots to Cuddle Babies and use kindness toward them, as many children of this age are becoming big brothers or sisters. I will be able to ask open-ended questions while they are engaging in this play and help them work through any emotions that they may be feeling. My children will also be able to look at themselves in the mirror, which can build self confidence. The dress up unit will help them learn the importance of cleanup at the end of play and show that each item has a place.
