Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been given the opportunity to teach the best group of little people imaginable. They are kind, generous, intelligent, and hardworking. They arrive each day ready to show the world the greatness within. They shine.

I teach phenomenal Black and Brown students.

These little people are absolutely amazing. They face many challenges and hardships that would defeat the average person. They have been historically marginalized in our society. Through covert and overt action and inaction society has told them that that their lives don't matter. This is completely, unacceptable. They deserve an anti-racist classroom and world.

As their teacher, I am committed to providing them the anti-racist classroom they deserve and taking action so that they can experience an anti-racist world. All of the materials I request will be ways to celebrate, uplift, and honor my students and their history. I am honored to be their teacher.

My Project

My school has been closed since March due to the pandemic. We are planning on reopening in the second quarter and when we do, things will look much different than they did before we were out. Among the many safety precautions in place, students will have to stay 6 feet apart. This makes group work and working in partners nearly impossible.

Of course, with my class, nothing is impossible!

My class is called "Infinity" because we can do anything, even work together. While students may not be able to be physically close, I want to give them the experience of working together collaboratively and learning from each other. The best way I could think of is some good old fashioned walkie talkies! Now, students can talk to each other, work on a project together, while remaining safely 6 feet apart.

School won't look the same for the remainder of this year and it probably won't look the same next year either. These walkie talkies will help make school a great experience for my students. They will be excited to use these devices and instead of seeing school as a scary and restrictive place, they will be able to have some fun while doing what research shows is best, collaborating!

Thank you for considering our project!
