This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in a high need community, but are eager and ready to learn about motion and forces.
The first thing my students ask when they walk into the room is "are we doing a lab today?". They love applying what they are learning towards activities where they can manipulate objects and instruments. They are ready to take on the forces of the world around them but don't have the necessary supplies to get them there.
Timers, tape measures and notebooks will help them discover the natural world of motion and forces around them. Most of my students learn science by doing science. In order to learn about speed, velocity, and forces they must conduct several investigations on our sports field outside. They need these materials in order to determine distance and time elapsed in order to determine speed. They also will use these materials to calculate the force of objects moving uphill, downhill and horizontally. Right now they have only 3 tape measures and no timers. This is not enough supplies to share with a classroom full of students. In addition, their lab composition notebooks are almost full with notes, data, and reflections from labs they have conducted all year. By having the notebooks they will be able to take it outside with them to record real data. Without the notebooks students will have to take out their 3 ring binders from other class in order to record data and reflections. Composition notebooks will eliminate the possibility of notebooks and materials inside being misplaced, damaged, or even lost. The students will also be able to work in much smaller groups resulting in each student actuall
Your help will ensure my students have an opportunity to "DO" science, not just read about science. Your help will support their learning experience until the end of the school year.
