My Students
Spice up our music making! We want to add exciting sounds to our ensembles. Cabasas, finger cymbals, glockenspiels, and ratchets all make interesting and unique percussive sounds that will add interest to the songs we learn in music class.
My students are the most diverse group of kids you could imagine.
Our school is located in a neighborhood that provides refugee services, so many of our students are recent refugees. We also have immigrants from all of the world. The unbelievable diversity makes for an exciting and vibrant school community that is accepting of differences and curious about culture.
My Project
Our kids are amazing music makers. I want to add some fun percussion instruments into the mix because I think they will be irresistible to the kids, and create a heightened sense of motivation for learning different musical concepts and rhythms. The instruments are all from different musical genres, and I know that the students always appreciate learning about instruments from around the world because it's especially important to them to be diverse and accepting of multi-cultural ideas and objects. Cabasas, ratchets, finger cymbals, and glockenspiels all come from different genres and cultures, but what they have in common is that they all require a different use of fine motor skills. The kids will be so excited by the cool new sound that they won't even realize they are improving fine motor skills.
These very cool musical instruments will provide interest, help kids develop new skills, both musical and physical, and become a part of our music making for many years.
