My Project
My goal as a literacy teacher is to get the students engaged in reading. I hear, "I just don't like reading," from students and I don't get discouraged because I know the truth.
Every student is a reader; however, some students just haven't found the right fit book.
I have several book series I recommend to students who claim to "not like reading." I get them hooked on the first book so they have to read books 2, 3, 4, etc. Once they get started, they are avid readers!
The problem occurs when my student goes to the shelf and asks, "Wait...where is the next book?"
Forcing them to wait until the book is available at the library hits their reading momentum. Some families go out of their way to purchase the next book in the series, but some don't have that luxury.
I want to have completed series ready to go on my shelf in my classroom. I know they would be used constantly. Ultimately, they will turn some "I just don't like reading" kids into avid readers!
