This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hard working, determined and enthusiastic learners. School has become the opportunity for a way out of poverty and toxic environments, where unfortunately they may see drug use and physical abuse on a regular basis.
Some of them are homeless and come from households that provide little stability due to the same explosive environment that is around them.
In the beginning of the school year its not unusual for the children to be depressed and anxious, not being quite sure if their classroom will be just another place that lets them down. It usually takes about 2 months for me to gain their trust; which is when I am able to see them grow and flourish, taking in my suggestions and hearing what will make them better and brighter!
My Project
My district is mandating that we teach through Zoom for about 3 hours a day. If I don’t have the proper tools needed to project my lessons, I will be working against the current to maintain a high level of learning. Sound and visual clarity is a must with this new way of teaching!
I know that with the proper tools so many virtual barriers will be lifted.
These are kids that will need to stay on task for hours per day to be on point when school opens up again.. sooner rather than later. I have several items that I know will make a huge difference when delivering lessons.
The microphone will allow my students to clearly hear me through all the noise! Trying to compete with cars, ambulances, firetrucks, music, and people talking can become such a struggle! Proper earphones will also make teaching at home much more productive - with this, I can muffle out any noise that comes my way!
Unfortunately not all schools have the right updated technology, so it will benefit my class to have a working webcam readily available. With the webcam, I can easily demonstrate lessons or create lesson videos for them to view at their own convenience.
