Dear 7th Grade Mathematicians, Math isn't just for the 'smart kids'. You don't have to be born with any special talents. MATH is for EVERYONE! It's a universal world language and you can speak it! With the help of many who believe in you, you will love constructing your own math knowledge. --Ms O

My students are among the brightest and most capable young people I've ever met.

I love them. YOU would love them if you knew them. I dream of facilitating a classroom discussion where my 40 students work in teams to share interesting facts and solve relevant and engaging problems from a hip magazine delivered to our classroom just for them! I'd love to pose a complex problem and step back while they feverishly thumb through an easy-to-navigate math text [one disguised as a comic book!] determined to find the appropriate math tool for this situation. Please help me to convince them that MATH ABILITY is a beautiful thing-- free to anybody who wishes to claim it.

My Project

Please help me prove to my students that math is everywhere, that it's embedded in nearly everything we do. These colorful and interesting magazines will capture my students' attention and have them thinking mathematically about the world around them before they even realize it! Student-friendly math texts will provide the access they've previously considered to be 'out of their league'. Calculators will help my math teams to apply their newly-constructed knowledge during real-world problem solving.

I currently teach 4 sections of 7th grade math for a total of 160 students.

Your gift will help me to share 40 magazines with ALL of my classes-and a new title will come every two weeks! The texts and calculators can be used year after year. Your gift today will reach students for years to come. THANK YOU for making such a terrific impact!
