My Students

I need help getting my students excited about reading! I can accomplish this task by providing high-interest reading materials that relate to my students. "Weekly Reader News Senior Edition" will be sure to do the trick!

I teach Language Arts Literacy to 75 grade 6 students in a high-need community.

My classes consist of the general education population, English language learners, and special needs students. "Weekly Reader" will be a major asset to their comprehension growth, but I know they cannot afford their own subscriptions.

My Project

If each student had a "Weekly Reader," students would be able to read high-interest articles at their own pace, while reviewing comprehension and vocabulary skills. "Weekly Reader" provides non-fiction articles, maps and diagrams that aim at motivating students to read. Also, students would be given the chance to become informed about current events. In addition, I know my students would be so excited to read something other than a chapter book or their textbook! Such excitement will make it easy for students to make connections and help them to become lifelong readers.

Your donation will make it possible for each of my 75 students to have their very own subscription to "Weekly Reader".

Such a resource will provide infinite outlets for my students to expand their reading comprehension skills, while giving them the opportunity to read about things that matter to them!
