My students have high hopes and dreams for their futures. Many of them want to be doctors, nurses, scientists, and teachers when they grow up. However, some of the communities they come from are severely under-served. Some of my students come from single parent households or are being raised by other family members.
I believe that no matter where they come from or what they go through, all of my students deserve a chance.
They deserve a chance to learn in an environment that makes them feel loved and safe. They deserve a chance to learn in a classroom where there is a teacher using the best practices possible for them to learn.
My Project
Every year, my class does a unit on penguins. This is usually followed up in the spring with a trip to the zoo so they can see the animals they learned about. This year, because of COVID, we are unable to do that. Instead, I want to take them on a virtual field trip to the Shedd Aquarium.
During our virtual field trip, we will get to talk with a penguin handler, tour the penguin exhibit, and meet a real penguin!
The kids will be able to see things they have learned about, ask questions, and hopefully have a memorable experience.
