My Project

Developing gross and fine motor skills is a huge part of early childhood development. Gross motor skills develop first and lay the foundation for fine motor control. Each year I have students come into Pre-K with varying skills and strengths. A large part of their development begins with core strength, which is fundamental to gross motor development. These gross motor skills lead into fine motor skills we work on in the classroom, such as cutting, threading, writing, building blocks, and puzzles. This, in turn, leads to reading, problem-solving, and building independence.

Movement is important to all of us, but especially our developing little ones.

Gross motor skills are important to help children develop coordination, spatial awareness, and confidence. It is imperative for overall physical development. Having the tricycles and balance boards will allow us to build those core muscles outside, while focusing in on fine motor skills in the classroom.
