My Students

I teach science at Rainey-McCullers School of the Arts. My students have applied and auditioned to be able to attend our school. So, my student are very artistic and talented. They are extremely creative and love when arts are integrated in the curriculum.

However, science is not always a subject that my students have had success with in the past.

My job is to make science fun and engaging. I want to incorporate as much art and performance into my class as I can. This will be the goal of all my projects. To supply my students with materials that will allow them to express themselves to the fullest. Building their knowledge of the standards and building their knowledge of the arts!

My Project

I am always looking for ways to bring science into my students lives. My favorite way is to connect what we learn in the classroom to what they see every day here in Columbus. However, timing is not always ideal.

VR is a powerful learning tool and it can help connect our children to science and their community.

I want my kids to experience Columbus at any time of the year. With a VR camera and my Google cardboards, I can show my students cool features of Columbus even out of season. I can transport them to these locations that they have been to and can relate to or even visit themselves later!

I often see amazing science phenomena around Columbus but without my students. If I can record what I see, I can then have my kids transported to that location with their VR headsets. I can show them the angle of the sun in mid-winter and in high summer. I can show them the phases of the moon as viewed from our city not some random photo from google. This would be an amazing opportunity!
