My Students
Our students are a diverse group from a marginalized population. They are creative, motivated, kind students who are new to the US from Haiti. As English language learners, navigating school is even more challenging for them. Every word, every phrase, every topic is new and complicated to understand.
Our educators are devoted to finding unique ways to empower our English language learners through place-based learning within our community in Dorchester.
Through project-based learning, we are committed to reaching each student and guiding them through real-world learning experiences. We seek to inspire, and also to provide opportunities for these talented youth to reach their potential.
My Project
Imagine: you arrive in the United States as a youth and do not know the language, the area, the customs, the people, or even how to go about daily necessities or access healthcare. As an adolescent, you are told where your school is located and given instructions on details. Meanwhile, your family faces the realities of acclimating to shelter, healthcare, and the necessities of daily life.
Meet TBA—a school that devotes itself to serving youth in Dorchester and guiding English language learners in meaningful experiences!
While this school has struggled to have enough chairs and desks to accommodate its learners, now imagine the significant ELL population has access to sets of the Oculus 2 to experience aspects of life that will truly define their future success in navigating life in a new country. VR to help them with everyday living, learning about culture, understanding similarities and differences between Haiti and the US, learning about finances, healthcare, etc. With YOUR donation, I can bring this effective, meaningful technological vehicle to TBA to guide them!
