This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students face a lot of difficult circumstances. They try the best they can even though they come from low-income homes, face homelessness, and sometimes are in foster care. Regardless of some of their circumstances, they have a drive to be better. My students focus to complete high school, better themselves, and strengthen their communities.
My Project
Most of my students are high school seniors. Some are of voting age or almost there, but they do not have the resources to research and gather enough information on candidates or legislation and are reluctant to exercise their right to vote. Since many come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, many students do not have access to technology or the privacy to research political parties and their platforms.
Students hold the power to make informed decisions when they are able to conduct research to gather information and form their own conclusions.
I want my students to gather information from reputable websites that give factual and neutral information. Students will then draw their own conclusions in order to make an informed decision when voting. Students can also help their classmates by presenting important information they have found using various presentation methods.
My students will be able to conduct research, either in the classroom or in their homes, without disturbing others. They will have the privacy to choose their candidates freely. These materials will help give them their privacy and independence when working on their voting project, and they will benefit by making an informed decision.
