My students weren't very enthusiastic about reading at the beginning of the school year. I made sure to try to impress upon them the importance of reading, as well as the joy of reading a good book. However, we need an updated classroom library to help me in my endeavor.
I teach third grade in an inner city public school.
My students are eager readers and learners despite their low socioeconomic status. I have tried to instill in my students a passion for reading by sharing my own passion for reading with them. My students who were once reluctant and very unenthusiastic readers have developed their own passion for reading through my continued efforts to excite them. Let's help my students to continue to be passionate about reading by replenishing their class library with new and exciting literature.
My Project
My third grade students weren't very enthusiastic about reading during Drop Everything and Read time. Every day I wondered why they were so reluctant and unenthusiastic about reading. Then one day one of my students said, "Ms. S., I don't like reading these raggedy, same old books!" Wow, that was a rude awakening for me. It was then that I realized that I had to replenish our class library. I must admit our class library is outdated, and our books are quite worn out and used. Through the support of DonorsChoose.org, my students can experience and further their passion of reading through a variety of literature.
This project is important because my students need to experience a variety of print in a positive way.
Exposing my students to a variety of print will allow their passion for reading to continue, which is the greatest gift a teacher can give to his or her students. By donating to our class library, you will be helping students to see that reading really is the greatest gift of all.
