My Students
I teach and coach at a title one school where 50% of our students live in poverty. We are diverse. Students from all different backgrounds pile through our doors eager to learn, interact with their peers, and challenge themselves. Our hallways are painted with motivational phrases, and the faces of our students doing the things they love are showcased in photographs lining the walls.
Our mission as a school is to celebrate diversity, cultivate relationships, challenge ourselves and each other, champion excellence in all endeavors, and change the world one person at a time.
Our teachers are committed to helping our students achieve to their potential. We value the importance of creating a school environment where students feel welcome, safe, and are proud to attend.
My Project
Our volleyball nets are shared between the P.E. department and the volleyball team. Our current nets have been used to the point of not functioning properly as they are quite old and are shared by 300+ kids. There are tears in them that we are having to duct tape together and frays in the cord which make setting the nets up a truly difficult task.
Unfortunately, our administration has told us that there is no money in the budget for new nets even though we desperately need them.
We would love to have two new nets to replace the ones we have. We want nets that function properly that our kids can be excited about. I know, sounds silly right?....excited about volleyball nets that don't have to be duct taped together? Yes, we would be thrilled! The students would be able to be proud of the equipment we get to use in practice and during competition. It's the little things like this that make a huge difference in the moral of a team and school building. Thank you for considering!
