Voices That Look Like Mine Classroom Library

Help me give my students a diverse classroom library that celebrates Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian American, and other historically underrepresented voices. Together, we can inspire students to see themselves and others as heroes of every story.

My Project

My students are curious, energetic, and full of dreams. Many come from communities historically underrepresented in literature and media. Our classroom is a beautifully diverse space, and every day, my students bring unique perspectives, cultures, and languages into our learning environment.

As a teacher in a Title I school, I know how important it is for students to feel seen, valued, and heard.

Representation matters and my students deserve stories that reflect who they are, where they come from, and the world they’re helping to shape.

This project will help us build a classroom library that centers racial justice, equity, and diverse representation. The books I’m requesting feature protagonists of color, stories rooted in social justice, and authors from a wide range of backgrounds including Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian American, and immigrant voices.

These stories empower children to see themselves as leaders and agents of change. They also help students learn about cultures, histories, and communities beyond their own, building empathy and deeper understanding.

I will also use these books to lead class discussions around fairness, identity, kindness, equity, and how we treat one another; helping students connect literature to real-world values and action.

Representation in books is more than a mirror, it’s a window and a bridge. With your help, our classroom can become a place where every child feels celebrated, understood, and ready to change the world, one page at a time.

Thank you for believing in racial justice, and thank you for believing in our kids.
