Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have been an educator for 25 years, and I’m still LOVING what I do. My main goal is to empower everyone of my students through reading and writing.

I want students to choose books where they see themselves reflected in the characters or explore stories that introduce them to different races and cultures.

For middle schoolers, who are often navigating identity, books offer a powerful way to understand themselves and the world around them.

I want to comfy chairs for them to use during our reading time. I have other seats that are fought over, so adding more will help. My hope is to continue to inspire students to read and become so involved that they become hooked.

Finally, we use Playdough a ton to create hands on reflections, connections, and evaluations of our books. It pulls students into a different way to see books. Their creativity is limitless when they create what they saw as they read. It also inspires other students to want to read the book.
