Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a speech-language pathologist working with students from Pre-K to 5th grade, I have the joy and responsibility of helping children find their voices—whether that means learning their first words, using AAC devices, improving articulation, or developing conversation skills. Many of my students have communication disorders, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, or speech sound challenges.

To meet their diverse needs, I’m requesting engaging, hands-on materials that will help make speech sessions more interactive, play-based, and fun—because communication thrives when children are engaged!

My students are bright, curious, and determined learners from Pre-K through 5th grade who come to speech sessions ready to grow their communication skills. Many of them are working on saying their first words, improving articulation, building vocabulary, using AAC devices, or learning to have conversations with peers. What makes my students so special is their resilience and excitement for learning, even when communication feels challenging. They thrive with hands-on, visual, and play-based tools that bring language to life in ways worksheets and flashcards simply can’t.

This project will provide essential materials like interactive books, articulation cards, pretend play sets, storytelling visuals, and sensory supports that make speech therapy fun, functional, and meaningful. These items will help me create engaging activities tailored to each student’s goals—whether it’s using core words on an AAC device, practicing sentence structure through magnetic storyboards, or playing pretend to learn new vocabulary. With these tools, students will not only improve their speech and language skills, but also gain confidence and independence as communicators.
