Students are required to take a full year of Ethnic Studies. After previewing the Voices, an Ethnic Studies Survey textbook, I learned that its content aligns with the new framework for the state and includes six units of study focusing on diverse voices in the community. I hope to use the textbooks in the classroom and also take advantage of the vast array of additional resources that can support student learning offered in the teacher resources.
I want to ensure that all voices are heard and honored in the classroom.
One thing that is lacking in the course that is currently being offered is a textbook. I hope that a successful year incorporating the Voices textbook in the classroom will increase interest and support for implementing a more standardized curriculum that includes this book across the school district.
