Voices Beyond Words: a Classroom That Speaks to All
Help me give my students what they deserve. Teaching a self contained K/1 classroom in a title I school, it would be an honor to make learning fun for the littles and cater to their specific learning needs.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students, who I had the pleasure to substitute teach with, are a vibrant group of curious, imaginative, and resilient little learners. Each one brings a unique light to our classroom, and together they form a community built on creativity, patience, and kindness. Many are on the autism spectrum, and some are non-verbal, but every child has their own way of communicating, discovering, and expressing joy. What I love most is watching them grow, not just academically, but socially and emotionally, especially when a resource speaks directly to their learning style.
The materials I'm requesting will make our classroom more inclusive, engaging, and comforting for all my students:
Sensory tools like wobble chairs will offer calming and stimulating experiences that support emotional regulation and focus, especially important for children with sensory processing needs.
Hands-on manipulatives counting bears and word games and learning games will allow non-verbal learners and emerging communicators to engage with content meaningfully through touch, movement, and play.
Adapted books and visual aids will bring stories to life in ways that feel personal and accessible, helping every child experience the joy of reading.
