My Project

Mask use has made hearing voices more challenging. This extends to both myself (as the instructor) and my students. Regardless of masks though, being able to hear me clearly is essential to success. Maybe more importantly though, being able to hear each other is vital for creating community and building student's confidence.

I want to give every student a voice in my classroom - not only opportunities to speak but to be heard clearly by others.

As an English teacher students regularly engage in reading to each other, discussion, and sharing. In addition to ELA business, my students participate in a community building activity every Monday called Community Circles. In Circles every student is given an opportunity to share their experience and feelings. Having a microphone to pass around helps students understand whose turn it is to speak and to be heard clearly.

I have used this very model of Redcat wireless speaker systems in the past. Having one of these for the first time felt like a revelation. I don't think my classroom has ever been more active and community ever as tight. Due to limited supply however my classroom will not receive a Redcat this year - I am heartbroken. So I've decided I need to guarantee access to this tool for students in my classroom.
