Imagine having to learn technical vocabulary terms in a language that is not your first. My goal is to help make this process as easy and fun as possible for my ESOL students.
My ESOL students come from a variety of different backgrounds.
Many of them are born in the United States. They are learning English as a second (or third) language. The majority of them are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. They are all eager to learn.
My Project
My students need various reading, language and vocabulary task cards for multiple levels. They will use these task cards in a variety of ways. With a partner or in small groups they will be able to practice key grade level vocabulary in a systematic way. Each card has a small number of questions so that students will not get overwhelmed with the language. I will also use these cards with individual or small groups of students to introduce new vocabulary and model strategies. Learning using task cards is a fun and engaging method for my ESOL students.
These vocabulary task cards will make a valuable difference for my students.
They will help my students learn grade level vocabulary terms just as their native English speaking peers. This information will help them in school and for many years to come.
