This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Each day my students walk into my classroom looking to achieve academic greatness. They bring me their bright smiles and brighter ideas on their journey, and all I want is to help them reach all their goals. They are capable of anything, all they need is support and guidance on the road to Wow!
I serve in a Title I school in south Dallas.
With 100% of my class qualifying as high poverty and "at-risk", it is essential that I provide them the best educational experiences I possibly can. My scholars are fun, energetic, creative, loving children that need as much support, guidance, and love as I can give them. Providing a safe, organized, accessible environment is the first step in ensuring that my students are excited and comfortable expressing themselves, taking risks, and growing.
My Project
I believe that these reading comprehension and vocabulary activities will help guide my students to targeted growth in those areas of reading. Vocabulary development is often an extremely difficult area for my students, as many come from homes where English is not the primary language they hear or speak. These vocabulary activities will help us improve our vocabulary and read better. The comprehension activities will help guide students to skills they can use when reading any passage or book. Comprehension is vital to successful reading, and these activities will reinforce their current skills while imparting new techniques.
Improving the reading skills of this class is an essential part of their success in 3rd grade.
Without the grade level reading skills they would obtain this year, they will not be prepared for the more challenging reading tasks of 3rd grade, including state standardized testing. By improving their reading abilities, they will continue to grow into successful scholars, and powerful readers.
