Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located a few miles away from a large metropolitan city. My students' families are working class and usually both parents work. The families in our community are very involved and want the best for the children and trust the teachers at our school wholeheartedly.
My students are enthusiastic 6th graders who truly enjoy working in groups, using technology and being creative.
80% of my students are English Language Learners and although they might struggle with academic language and correct grammar usage, they are still very inquisitive and persistent in finding answers.
My Project
My students need large poster paper and colorful markers in order to help them create large visuals for their class presentations. These supplies will encourage my students to get creative and use bright colors to get their point across during class presentations, whether they are explaining a science project or presenting on a character.
Since my students are English Language Learners, the use of visuals have become very important to their learning process.
The English language has proven to be difficult for my students and they do not like to present, however their confidence can be boosted when they learn to get their point across using pictures and symbols. My students use lots of pictures and symbols to explain their thinking and with the poster paper and markers, their thinking can now be evident to the whole class. This can definitely help prepare them for their continued educations as well as their future careers!!
