Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach at an all-girls public school in NYC. We are a Title I school, which means the vast majority of the students are from low-income families. I teach tenth grade global history and senior economics and personal finance.
These young women are passionate about learning and using their voices.
They are terrific young women. They are passionate about learning, kind and strong. They are voracious learners. Every year I leave my class learning more from them than they do from me. They are change-makers who challenge the status quo. Their voices are incredible. They are determined to leave their mark on the world.
Our school has one printer for 40 teachers. This printer is broken down for large portions of the year, leaving teachers like myself scrambling to create the materials my students need to learn. I don't use a textbook, as I find them narrow in scope and do not provide the sources needed to truly understand events or worksheets to develop students' knowledge of personal finance. A printer and toner are vital to my students' learning. I hope you will fund my project so that students do not have to worry about receiving copies every day.
