Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Poland, Ecuador, Albania, Colombia are just some of the countries that describe the children I service. I have many students who enter speaking little to no English. Although they may all come from different countries, they have the same goal in mind. They all want to come to school to learn and have fun. This school is located in a low-income/high poverty school district. When students come to school, they are granted the chance to forget anything bad going on outside school and learn and grow alongside their friends.
My ENL students bring such diversity into the classroom.
They not only learn in the classroom but are given the chance to teach others about where they come from as well. They are proud of where they are from, but also excited to learn about America. They are eager to learn English to communicate with all their new friends. These students are our future and I want to give them the chance to become successful students even if their English language skills are limited.
My Project
This year, I have many students who do not speak English. They come from all over the world. I need to start with as many visuals as possible. I want to be able to teach topics such as transportation, emotions, community helpers, etc. With these posters, I will be able to teach and have pictures to explain each topic further.
Using these posters will help my students succeed in and outside the classroom.
I want to be able to start with basic vocabulary and then further their learning by creating writing pieces using these vocabulary words. By having these posters, students will have a reference to look back on to help them.
