Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The objective of this project is to have students understand and apply geometric transformations, symmetry, and properties of shapes in a dynamic way. Students will create, manipulate, and explore different geometric shapes and transformations (translations, rotations, reflections, dilations) using an app like GeoGebra in their MacBooks. They can document their work with screenshots or screen recordings, explaining how each transformation changes the properties of the shapes. Having an iPad to share in the classroom allows us to connect to the Mimio boards in our classroom and they can present from this device from anywhere in the classroom. We can also make annotations using the Apple pencil and its features. This gives disabled students the chance to present from their desk or even move the presentations along using the tablet as opposed to having students stand in the front.

My students are technology driven, an iPad will provide immediate feedback, greater precision, the ability to visualize and manipulate shapes in three dimensions, and the option to integrate multimedia into learning, making them a powerful tool in the geometry classroom.

Using technology in the classroom exposes students to modern tools that are widely used in professions like architecture, engineering, design, and computer science. This not only helps them learn geometry but also prepares them for the types of technology they might encounter in future careers.
