This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a special education teacher who works almost exclusively with 11th graders. My students have both learning and attention deficit disabilities, so creating lessons and materials that are both informative and engaging is important (and honestly pretty difficult). What I love the most about my students is their honesty, which, at times, is very blunt! They will tell me right away how they feel about a lesson, and what they respond to the most positively are visuals that they find interesting.
My students are very much visual learners and they need visuals to support the oral instruction.
These materials would help me provide them with effective visuals to keep their attention and help them better understand our math and literacy lessons. The Cricut and corresponding vinyl will be used to make anchor charts for math, reading, and writing lessons in my resource classes. My students need to not only see the steps to math problems written out, but they also benefit from corresponding pictures, and the Cricut will make it much easier to provide that for them. A laminator will allow me to not only make things like task cards and flashcards for my students but will also allow me to extend the life of these instructional tools and use them again in the months (or years) to come.
