My Students
Some students have a very hard time seeing the big picture, and staying on task for even ten minutes at a time can be a burden. Offering students a way to see the time available to work will help encourage students to stay engaged in learning. The time is broken down, and it is a visual reminder.
We are a small neighborhood charter school.
We only have two classes per grade-level for a total of 210 students. We pride ourselves on focusing on the individual student and offering exciting learning opportunities!
Often the class is engaged in hands-on learning and projects, which can overwhelm the distractible student. Basic routines are necessary, but when it comes down to it, sometimes it is beyond the student's control. We like to provide them with small successes to help build confidence and motivation. It is important that students feel like they are in control of their own actions.
My Project
Having visual timers in the classrooms where the students are will help the students stay focused and feel successful in the classroom. It will give students ownership and help them complete their work and remain on task. It is important for the students to have the timers in our classroom, their math room, the ESE room and library, which is why I am requesting four.
So much focus goes into the curriculum, which I agree is important, that we tend to not focus as much of our monetary efforts into students' development as a whole student.
We focus on individual academic subjects. Making students aware of the process and having them take ownership and responsibility for completing work will help them build habits that they can take with them in the future.
