Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The use of whiteboards is a regular part of instruction in my biology classroom, especially during hands-on lessons and interactive discussions. Whether we are drawing the structure of a plant cell, mapping out the process of photosynthesis, or modeling energy flow through an ecosystem, whiteboards provide students with a space to visualize and communicate their understanding. During guided practice or lab preparation, students often work in pairs or small groups to sketch diagrams, label biological processes, or answer review questions on their boards. Whiteboards are especially helpful because they allow me to quickly assess student thinking and provide immediate feedback. I can walk around the room and see in real time who is grasping the concept and who might need extra support. They also encourage student collaboration, since it’s easy for them to share their work and discuss it with peers.

While we do run into occasional issues—like dried-out markers or the boards becoming stained from repeated use—the benefits far outweigh the challenges.

Whiteboards make our biology lessons more dynamic, visual, and interactive, helping students engage more deeply with complex scientific content.
