Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher in a self contained classroom in New York. My students are in the same classroom for a majority of the day. The students I teach are in the 9th grade and attend a special education high school.
Unfortunately, resources within the school are very limited. As a teacher competing with television, video games and the internet, it becomes a struggle at times to get the students engaged in the learning process especially since there is a lack of visual resources available to them. There is a saying, "a picture is worth a thousand words," and my students struggle with understanding those words.
It would be very helpful if the classroom had an LCD projector which would allow me to give the students a more visual experience. It would also allow my students to enegage in activities that encourage the use of technology and creativity. With an LCD projector they would not only be able to view pictures, take virtual tours as a class and view interactive lessons; they would also be able to create presentations in groups to present to their classmates. These students presentations would foster their creativity and assist in the learning process. It will also help in increasing their visual literacy. They will be able to work together as a group to discuss the words that a picture gives us.
Your help will ensure that my students get the visual resources and engage in technology that will not only assist them in the classroom but also help them in the world outside of school.
