A typical day at our high school is never "typical." We have block scheduling. This allows us to cover scientific topics using an in-depth approach. We teach both Biology and Chemistry. Our students are eager to learn. Many of the students attend tutoring twice a week. We love to learn.
Our students represent diversity in action.
We have students from all walks of life. This includes many separate ethnicities, religious groups, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds which can inhibit opportunity, life choices, and overall quality of life.
Science and math are often difficult for our students. Many students come in with little to no background in the areas of biology and chemistry. However, our state requires End-of-Course testing in the area of biology. We are under pressure to ensure that we offer success to all students. During the last three years, we have met all 16 points in the area of biology. This did not happen by accident. We use many techniques that allow our students to achieve mastery over subject matter, regardless of any deficits that they may have. We encourage teamwork. We work in collaborative groups to make sure that all students achieve and succeed!
My Project
My students need a document camera. This visual presenter will allow us to project complicated subject matter in diverse ways. Many of our students do not have equal access to technology. We make modifications that help the students through this process.
One of our major methods of modifications include projecting our lessons in a visual format. We take a lot of time to make guided notes for the majority of our lessons. Our guided notes can be projected for students who can't listen to lectures and transfer information to a written form. Students with exceptional needs, English Language Learners, and general education students will benefit equally from a new visual projector.
Our End-of-Course scores are bound to increase with a document camera. If students do well in the area of science, perhaps more of our students will enter scientific fields. These fields include careers in the health sciences, engineering, and career oriented fields such as the military or trade school. Our students' overall quality of life will increase.
A donation will allow us to project information that is very difficult to comprehend.
Through the use of a visual projector, we can transmit information with the most up-to-date technology. We will use the visual presenter nearly every day. Our classes our 90 minutes long. Our students will have access to this projector as well. The students can present reports and projects using the projector. Overall, getting a visual projector will be a win-win situation for our entire community.
