Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As students walk into my classroom, my first priority is to make them smile and make them believe in themselves. Students with learning disabilities need so many things. Visual aids are vital.
My current students range from 1st to 5th grade and they are amazing, bright kids that due to having Dyslexia, struggle with reading and learning.
Dyslexia affects many aspects of their learning process because it impedes the acquisition of reading without the proper instruction. Their self-worth and self-esteem also become affected as they grow up. Fortunately, as they improve through the intense interventions, they learn to overcome their difficulties and to believe in themselves. Our school, as well as all of the schools in our district, are very fortunate to provide Dyslexia teachers for those students that have Dyslexia, but due to low funding, classrooms, like mine, are not properly equipped with the technology needed. Our school tries hard to provide the most they can, but most of the technology is prioritized for the upper grade levels.
My Project
Our classroom is a reading lab that currently services 31 students. Students from different grade levels are grouped and come in to receive intense reading interventions throughout the day because they are diagnosed with Dyslexia. Our 45 minute classes are structured, systematic and direct in nature. There is no time to be wasted. The visual presenter that I am asking for, will help me project the reading material that I need my students to view as I am explaining it. It is extremely difficult to write everything on the white board since I only have 45 minutes to complete so many different components of my daily lessons. With a visual presenter I will be able to project the reading practices, grammar, writing and fluency material that I work on every day. Students will be able to follow the lessons better without me having to show them from my paper.
Having a visual presenter for my classroom will improve it tremendously by projecting activities on the board, thus making the lessons more interactive and appealing.
This tool will enable them to view the work at a grander scale and it will help me by saving me the time to write everything on the board. As a dyslexia teacher, I need all the help that I can possibly get to maintain my students interested and engaged to maximize the learning experience in a short period of time. Please help us.
