My Students

Living in poverty creates many obstacles to learning, including, but not limited to a lack of educational resources and an environment plagued with violence. My students have to endure these struggles on a daily basis.

In spite of these difficulties my students face every day, they are eager and motivated to learn!

Their faces light up with excitement when learning new concepts, skills and content. They look forward to these experiences and they love sharing their new knowledge and skills with their peers.

My Project

Please help me give my students a fun opportunity to engage with math materials to build their fluency and support their understanding of crucial concepts needed to succeed in 2nd grade!

These materials will help students visualize concepts in order to develop and deepen their conceptual understanding of foundational math skills that may be challenging to master.

The hands-on materials will increase student engagement and help close potential gaps due to learning loss from covid mandated closures and virtual learning from the previous school years.

I will use the activity charts during daily whole group instruction to review the following concepts: calendar, time, money, place value, addition and subtraction relationships and number patterns. Students will use the write & wipe boards to practice these skills during whole group instruction and collaboratively with peers. Using the magnetic easel, I will be able to further demonstrate these skills in small groups and in one on one conferences with students needing additional support. Lastly, students will use the Visualize it! cards and addition and subtraction machines to build the fluency needed to be prepared for 3rd grade math concepts.
