Visual Literacy: Art Library

My students need a classroom library with books about art and artists including Watercolor Painting, Pastels, and Art Spaces.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Gordon's classroom raised $437

This project is fully funded

My Students

My classroom is a place of integration. In a 5-day period, I see almost 500 students, grades kindergarten through fifth, with diverse cultures and backgrounds. My classroom brings all this as well as aspects of many subjects, (math, reading, writing, social studies, etc,) together to create!

My students have many challenges including a low socioeconomic background, limited experiences, limited English proficiency, etc.

We have 500+ students, and I teach them all, kindergarten through fifth. My students are eager to learn, grow and create through the Arts. Our school is an A+ Magnet School, so we have many opportunities for students to create, performance and express themselves and what they are learning through the Arts.

My Project

My students will use the Art books as a resource within the classroom for inspiration for projects as well as research about different artistic genres, art processes, and cultures. Actually having an Art library in the classroom will provide students with an extra step and extra 'center' during projects and units.

Having an art library will help many works of art, art processes, and art techniques come to life.

Students will be able to travel to a museum through a book or see other examples of art work through a book. They will build on their prior knowledge as well as examples done by me the teacher but expand their experiences, knowledge and skills through books. They will see the importance of literacy and reading in all aspects of their lives, through all subjects.
